Women’s History Month: Honoring Trailblazers and Trendsetters!
Dorcas T. Helfant-Browning made history as the first female President of the National Association of REALTORS® in 1992. Her appointment to this role was not only a pivotal moment in the real estate industry but also a powerful symbol of progress for women aspiring to lead.
At just 45 years old, Dorcas became one of the youngest presidents in NAR history at the time, showcasing her leadership potential and forward-thinking approach. During her tenure, she took steps to influence national policy, including a key White House meeting with fellow real estate professionals to advocate for tax reforms that would stimulate the #economy and ease the credit crunch affecting commercial and investment properties.
Dorcas was also renowned for her insightful wisdom and practical advice. One of her most enduring quotes reflects her deep understanding of the evolving nature of real estate: “It pays to be a little flexible if it lets you find your dream home.” This simple message underscores her belief in the value of adaptability.
As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we honor Dorcas and other women leaders who’ve paved the way for future generations of women in real estate.
